More than 500 motorbike riders from around the state showed their support for volunteer organisation BlazeAid on Sunday 2 April as they rumbled through the fire ground as part of the fundraising event Ride for BlazeAid.
Coordinated by Tania Linke, Lynn Grimes, Narelle Candy, Sue Scott and Tina Green, the event showed the riders what BlazeAid has achieved and the volunteers in action.
After a hearty fundraising breakfast provided by the Williamstown CFS, the troop left Williamstown at 10.30am, moving through Lyndoch, Tanunda, Seppeltsfield and Freeling. Locals lined the streets to cheer them on and officers from the SA Police were there to support the event and guide the riders through as a group at key intersections. Marshalls escorted them into their final destination at Hamley Bridge oval about 11.45am where they caught up with old friends, made new ones, and enjoyed a fundraising barbecue lunch supplied by the Hamley Bridge CFS.
Many of the riders participated in a similar ride following the Sampson flat fires as well as the annual toy run.
Each rider contributed $10 for the event and many local businesses donated items for a large raffle. The proceeds of the event will support BlazeAid in their continued work.
Ms Linke says the ride will take place on the last weekend in March each year around the state.
